IMEI Lock
IMEI Lock binds a Soracom SIM to a specific device's IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity). Once locked, the SIM will only connect when inserted in the authorized device. If the SIM is moved to a different device, the connection is rejected.
What it does
- Hardware binding: Lock a SIM to a specific device IMEI to prevent unauthorized transfers
- Theft protection: Ensure stolen SIMs cannot be used in other equipment
- Automatic detection: The platform records the device IMEI on first connection for easy lock setup
- Bulk operations: Apply IMEI locks across large fleets via the API or bulk operations
- Flexible management: Lock, unlock, or update IMEI bindings at any time through the console or API
Common use cases
- Preventing SIM theft in unattended field-deployed devices
- Ensuring compliance with device-SIM pairing requirements
- Protecting against unauthorized usage in vending machines, kiosks, or vehicles
